According to the latest National Scorecard for Medical Excellence compiled by CareChex Medical Quality Rating System, OSH ranks #1 in the Market for Overall Hospital Care. CareChex is an independent ratings company that provides a comprehensive evaluation of hospital inpatient care using 7-peer reviewed methodologies. CareChex utilizes the same methods adopted by the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), both leaders in the industry for reporting public healthcare information.

OSH received additional ratings for Medical Excellence with their Orthopedic Care, Major Orthopedic Surgery and General Surgery Programs also being ranked #1 in Tulsa. The General Surgery program at OSH is ranked #1 in the state and in the top 10% of programs in the Nation. The hospital’s Orthopedic Care program also received the honor of being ranked in the Top 10% of programs in the Nation.

CareChex also evaluates patient safety in over 5,000 hospitals across the country. OSH received the #1 rating in Tulsa for patient safety in Overall Hospital Care, Overall Surgical Care, Orthopedic Care, Major Orthopedic Surgery, and General Surgery. The hospital was also ranked in the Top 0% of Hospital in the Nation in all of the above mentioned categories.

OSH is also proud to announce that they have been ranked #1 in Oklahoma for Spine Surgery by HealthGrades. HealthGrades recently released their Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America study which analyzed objective mortality and complication rates at all of the nation’s 5,000 nonfederal hospitals using 40 million hospitalization records obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The study, the largest of its kind, identified national and state-level trends in hospital care quality and established quality ratings for each hospital, across 26 different procedures and diagnoses.

In addition to the #1 ranking in the state, OSH is also ranked in the Top 5% in the Nation for Spine Surgery and received Five-Star ratings for Overall Spine Surgery, Spinal Fusion Surgery, and Back & Neck Surgery. The Hospital was also awarded the HealthGrades Spine Surgery Excellence Award.

OSH was also rated Best in the Region for Joint Replacement Surgery for the 6th year in a row. The hospital received Five-Star ratings for Joint Replacement, as well as Total Knee Replacement and has received these ratings for six consecutive years.

The study by HealthGrades of patient outcomes at America’s hospitals found that patients at Five-Star Rated hospitals had a 72% lower risk of dying when compared with patients at One-Star Rated hospitals. This is an enormous gap that has held steady over the past years even as overall mortality rates have improved. According to the study, if all hospitals performed at the level of Five-Star Rated hospitals over the three years studied, 232,442 Medicare live could potentially have been saved.
