DISCLOSURE OF EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCESS
Oklahoma Surgical Hospital maintains in-house physician coverage during all hours of operation to handle emergency situations.
During daytime hours an anesthesiologist or another physician is available in the hospital to respond to emergent medical situations. In addition, another physician trained in hospital care (commonly known as a “hospitalist”) is also on-call during daytime hours to respond to medical emergencies and to provide on-going medical consultation if required.
Oklahoma Surgical Hospital also maintains in-hospital coverage by “hospitalist” physicians during evening hours and continuously during weekend hours. These physicians are physically present and stay in the hospital from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and continuously from 6:00 pm on Friday until 6:00 a.m. on the following Monday, to handle medical emergencies.
In addition, to facilitate emergent care capabilities, Oklahoma Surgical Hospital has established “Rapid Response Teams” consisting of nurses, respiratory therapists and patient care technicians who are qualified, trained and equipped to handle most medical emergencies. Rapid Response Team members are on-site at the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are available to assist physicians in emergency situations and are the first to respond to any medical emergency. The Rapid Response Team is supported at all times by a physician who is on-site to respond to any medical emergency that may arise.
In the event, a patient’s condition as the result of a medical emergency cannot be appropriately managed at the hospital, Oklahoma Surgical Hospital will arrange for transfer of the affected patient to another local facility that is capable of attending to the patient’s medical needs. Ambulance transportation to an alternate facility will be arranged through the Emergency Medical Services Authority.
